Head Coach Sonny Dykes
On the game:
"It feels good to get the first win. Those are hard to come by in college football. If you look at the scores (from today) you can see some of the games and some of the teams that were probably favored to win and didn't. It feels great to get the win. I think we were a little disappointed in the way that we played. I think most of that had to do with Grambling. I think coach Broadway had them extremely well prepared. Grambling played extremely hard and they ought to be really proud of the way their student-athletes played. If we wouldn't have made a couple of big stops defensively, they would have had a chance to win. We have to get better and we will. I think it is good for our players to realize that we have to improve. I tip my hat to Grambling and coach Broadway because they played hard for 60 minutes. We were fortunate to get out of here with a win. "
On the effectiveness of the spread offense:
"The goal is to get lined up quickly. We got comfortable in the first drive and played extremely fast. We did some good things in the second quarter as well. After that we had a hard time getting everyone in rhythm."
On the performance of the offense:
"I thought we did some good things. We had three or four missed opportunities where we thought we had a call that could get us a touchdown and we didn't get the play off. In college football you are going to have only a few opportunities to catch them (your opponent) exactly when you want to catch them. We've got to take advantage of some of those plays. It was a sloppy first game. We'd hoped to be a lot sharper."
On playing two quarterbacks:
"The quarterback is about getting in a rhythm. We don't want to get a quick trigger of pulling guys out and putting guys in. If you do that you better be careful because you can't do that too often. I'm not surprised at all that we played two quarterbacks. We ran about 80 plays offensively and we'll have to look at where we can get better."
On the defensive effort:
"I thought our defense played solid. They've practiced well and they played well. They made some really good stops.
On winning his first game as a head coach:
"It feels good to win. Really it's about the players. These are the guys that get it done. I was proud of them, I really was. It's hard to win a college football game. It's especially hard when you're in a brand new program and making a drastic change. The players have to adjust. "
Defensive End Matt Broha
On the play of Grambling quarterback Anthony Carrothers:
"(Anthony) Carrothers is a great guy and he is an athlete for sure. When we came into the game our number one concern was him scrambling out of the pocket and getting loose. We tried to put pressure on him all night. That's what we were doing all night up front - putting pressure on him and trying to keep him in the pocket. He is definitely a tough guy to stop and I think we did a good job."
On the defensive adjustments to Danny Reyes:
"We were just concerned with finishing the game. He is a good quarterback too but we knew that he wasn't going to scramble as much as Carrothers did. Our main goal was to finish the game and we did that."
On the defensive effort:
"The first couple of drives we gave up some big plays. They kept driving on us but (Stan) Eggen did a good job on the sideline getting us together and we came out there and executed."
On the Grambling offensive attack:
"They came out strong. They had a good offense and a good scheme and we went out there and played heads up and tried to shut them down on every drive."
Quarterback Colby Cameron
On the offense not being able to finish out drives:
"It's frustrating. I know that when I was hit a few times that we had opportunities to score. If you have a chance to score you want to do so because it helps the defense out. It is frustrating but at least it is our first game and we will have opportunities to keep going."
On his first college game:
"I felt comfortable at times and at other times it is kind of fun just getting in for your first game. At first I was just trying to get it done and get warmed up. As the time went on I got more and more comfortable."
On splitting time between receiver and quarterback in practice:
"I want to play wherever the coaches need me because this is college football. In college, you are competing for a spot daily. I just try to compete every day and I guess we will just wait and see where the coaches need me next week in order to help this team."
