RUSTON, La. - Quarterback Colby Cameron continued to make his case for the starting quarterback job as Louisiana Tech held its first scrimmage of the spring Saturday morning at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Tech ran a predetermined 80 plays during the scrimmage with Cameron leading all quarterbacks with a 71 percent completion mark, throwing 10-for-14 with three touchdowns. Taylor Burch also continued to improve as he was 6-for-9 with a 67 percent completion mark but Cameron was the only one of the four quarterbacks to throw into the end zone.
Zach Griffith was 5-for-10 with one interception during the scrimmage and Tarik Hakmi was 1-for-7 with no touchdowns or interceptions.
A crop of newcomers led Tech's offense Saturday as D.J. Banks, Jacarri Jackson and Quinton Patton led all receivers with three catches. Myles White added two more with one drop.
Among the running backs, Ray Holley stood out as he continues to challenge Lennon Creer for the starting job with several carries and two catches.
Saturday's scrimmage marked the team's seventh spring session out of an NCAA-allotted 15 practices. Tech returns to practice on Monday at 4 p.m. on the practice fields.
