BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Louisiana Tech sprinters Monique Wright and Trey Hadnot both advanced as action continued Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. Wright punched her ticket for Des Moines while Hadnot moved on to Saturday's quarterfinals.
Wright ran a season-best 53.51 in the quarterfinals to move on to the NCAA semifinal round at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-13.
Hadnot, a native of Ruston, entered the opening round in the 200m and ran 21.28 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
New Orleans native Chelsea Hayes ran 11.60 in the 100m dash quarterfinals, missing out on an NCAA Championship qualifying time by three-hundredths of a second. Hayes finished 15th while the top 12 advance to the semifinals in Des Moines.
In the 100m hurdles, freshman Kim Francis ran 14.42 to place 44th out of 48 competitors.
Saturday marks the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round with Louisiana Tech competing in five events. Hadnot will run in the 200m quarterfinals while Larry Jones and Micara Vassel will compete in the discus. Both of LA Tech's men's and women's 4x100m relay teams will also compete for a chance to advance to Des Moines.
