RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will open its Western Athletic Conference season this Saturday when the Bulldogs host preseason league favorite Hawaii Saturday at 6 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium.
There are numerous promotions and events set around this weekend's home football game, including the Tech Athletics Hall of Fame induction, the Bulldogs Tackling Breast Cancer campaign, the Red-Out game promotion as well as additional home sporting events on campus.
Fans wishing to purchase tickets can do so by calling the Tech Ticket Office at 318-257-3631, emailing techtickets@latech.edu or logging onto www.latechsports.com.
As part of the Red-Out game promotion, all Tech fans are strongly encouraged to wear RED to the game on Saturday night. This will be the second time in three years that the Red-Out game is against Hawaii as more than 21,000 red-clad Bulldog fans cheered LA Tech onto a 27-6 victory over UH in 2009.
For the fifth straight year Louisiana Tech Athletics is helping promote awareness and assisting in raising funds for the fight against breast cancer. This year Tech Athletics is teaming up with the Northern Louisiana Medical Center and the Minute Magazine for the Bulldogs Tackling Breast Cancer game and the inaugural Wiggin' Out Dinner (set for Thursday, Oct. 6).
As part of an effort to raise funds and support the Red-Out game, all fans are encouraged to purchase the official Bulldogs Tackling Breast Cancer t-shirt ($15 short sleeve, $20 long sleeve) at area businesses, including the gift shop at Northern Louisiana Medical Center, LA Tech Ticket Office, Tolliver Hall (Tech campus), Community Trust Bank (Financial Center on North Trenton), Dawg House Sports Grill, LA Tech Marbury Alumni Center, Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Bank of Ruston, Rodeo Boutique and the Children's Shoppe.
T-shirts will also be sold the day of the Tech-Hawaii game at Argent Pavilion (2 to 5 p.m.) and on both the east and west sides of Joe Aillet Stadium starting at 5 p.m. and running through halftime. All proceeds from the sales of these official BTBC t-shirts go to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure NECLA Affiliate.
Tickets for the inaugural "Wiggin' Out" dinner are $50 and can be purchased by calling Audrey Buskirk at 318-254-2492 or by emailing audrey_buskirk@chs.net. Through a joint effort by Louisiana Tech Athletics, Northern Louisiana Medical Center and The Minute Magazine, this is sure to a fun, yet informative night and a celebration of life.
Heavy hors d'oeuvres and a wine/beer bar will be provided with the special feature drink of the night being the "Pink Wig". Peaches Wig Shop will provide a large wig display as a "Wig Runway" will be set up where individuals can get their picture taken wearing different types of crazy, unique and fun wigs.
Selected Louisiana Tech student-athletes will be in attendance selling raffle tickets as prizes will be given away throughout the night. A silent auction will also be part of the night's fundraising efforts. All proceeds from the "Wiggin' Out" dinner will benefit women who aren't able to afford to purchase a wig while undergoing chemotherapy.
The 2011 Louisiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Class will be enshrined in a ceremony set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Waggonner Room of the Thomas Assembly Center. This year's class is comprised of Matt Dunigan, Venus Lacy, David Lee, Mike McConathy, Paul Millsap, Dave Nitz, T.J. Soto and Matt Stover.
All Tech fans and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony which is free, and are encouraged to arrive early in order to find parking around the Thomas Assembly Center.
The weekend is also filled with numerous Tech home sporting events as the Lady Techster volleyball team hosts a pair of WAC games against Utah State Thursday at 7 p.m. and Idaho Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Techster soccer team also opens WAC play at home Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against New Mexico State. The Bulldog golf team hosts the Squire Creek Invitational Monday and Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. at Squire Creek Golf Course.
