Tech Softball at SFA Wednesday

Feb. 28, 2012

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Coming off a successful weekend where it won the 2012 Gold Pub and Grill Classic tournament title, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster softball team will travel to Texas to face Stephen F. Austin Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Tech (6-7) won three out of four games this past weekend in Hattiesburg, including a 13-6 victory in the championship game against Southern Mississippi, to capture the title of the four-team, two-day tournament.

Junior utility Janna Frandrup, who was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week Monday following her performance, led the Lady Techsters with three doubles and seven RBI during the past week. For the season Frandrup is batting .433 with four doubles and a team-high 15 RBI while drawing a WAC-high 14 walks.

Junior second baseman Amanda Krueger is batting .306 with a team-high 14 runs scored. She has leads the WAC with seven doubles on the season.

Kendra Harmon (.289, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Katelynn Hill (.286, 4 HR, 6 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.286, 2 RBI) and Meghan Knowles (.243, 6 RBI) have also been solid offensively through the first 13 games of the season for Tech.

Michelle Jones (4-2, 2.10 ERA) continues to serve as the ace of the LA Tech pitching staff early in the season, picking up her fourth win of the season Saturday with a complete-game 2-1 victory over IUPUI. Frandrup (1-1, 1.11 ERA) has been productive in her relief role as well.

Stephen F. Austin is 5-10 on the season although the Lady Jacks have played some tough competition with losses coming to Baylor, Texas Tech, Ole Miss (twice), Nebraska, Florida State and New Mexico State.

As a team SFA is batting only .209 on the year and is led by Cadie Weaver (.342, 1 HR, 10 RBI) and Elizabeth Arana (.278, 2 HR, 5 RBI). The Ladyjacks have recorded 20 stolen bases on the year.

In the circle, SFA could turn to one of three pitchers, including Carlie Thomas (3-5, 4.12 ERA), Kaitlyn Mixon (0-1, 4.08 ERA) or Angela White (2-4, 7.61 ERA).

Tech leads the all-time series against SFA 38-19.
