RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will play its final home game of the season Wednesday when the Lady Techsters host Northwestern State at 6 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
It will be the rubber game of the three-game series between the two in-state foes this year as the Lady Techsters won 7-5 on Feb. 17 in Lafayette while the Demons won 3-0 on April 10 in Natchitoches.
Tech (21-29) split a non-conference doubleheader with McNeese State Monday, defeating the Cowgirls 4-3 in the first game before falling 5-4 in the second game. Junior Melanie Goff was 4-for-5 with three RBI in the doubleheader, including her second home run of the season while Erin Kipp added her third homer of the year.
Goff continues to lead Tech, batting .404 with 13 doubles and 20 RBI. Janna Frandrup (.305, 2 HR, 28 RBI), Erin Kipp (.286, 3 HR, 18 RBI), Amanda Krueger (.277, 13 doubles, 37 runs) are the Lady Techsters top offensive threats.
Michelle Jones (13-13, 2.65 ERA) is Tech's top pitcher although Wednesday's probable starter would be either Kipp (5-7, 5.56), Frandrup (2-4, 1.38 ERA) or Goff (1-5, 5.71 ERA).
Northwestern State (19-28) enters the contest having lost four of its last five games, including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Texas State this past weekend.
Kylie Roos (8-11, 3.29 ERA), who pitched a complete-game one-hitter against the Lady Techsters three weeks ago, is the probable starter for the Demons. Brooke Boening (4-6, 3.83) and Kelee Grimes (6-9, 3.84 ERA) could also see time in the circle.
Offensively, the Demons are led by Tara McKenney (.355, 12 RBI), Cali Burke (.324, 16 RBI), Brianna Rodriguez (.295, 5 HR, 21 RBI) and Ruston native Samantha Roberts (.268, 7 HR, 21 RBI).
