LAKE CHARLES, La. - Louisiana Tech split two games in the second day of the 2013 Cowgirl Classic as the Lady Techsters defeated Southern 11-2 before falling 5-4 to Houston Baptist Saturday afternoon in Lake Charles.

Tech (4-4) will complete its tournament schedule Sunday morning when the Lady Techsters face Alcorn State at 10 am.

Amanda Krueger put the finishing touches on a big offensive day with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth as Louisiana Tech run-ruled Southern 11-2 in its first game of Saturday's action at the Cowgirl Classic in Lake Charles.

Krueger was one of six Tech players that recorded multiple hits in the game as the Lady Techsters recorded season-highs in runs and hits (14) against the winless Jaguars (0-7).

Junior Erin Kipp (2-1) picked up her second victory of the weekend, allowing only two unearned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out two in 4.0 innings of work before giving way to reliever Janna Frandrup who pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Tech took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Frandrup drove home Kristen Miles with the first run of the game on a fielder's choice groundout. Miles singled and advanced to third on back-to-back singles by Erin Kipp and Alayna Kipp to get into scoring position.

In the top of the second, the Lady Techsters plated four more runs to push its advantage out to 5-0. Dacia Hale led the frame off with a single and scored in front of Janine Godwin's RBI triple for the first run of the frame. Anna Cross then recorded an RBI bunt hit to plate Godwin.

One out later, Cross scored on a grounder by Miles that Southern pitcher ??? committed an error on as Miles moved all the way to third base. Erin Kipp then drove Miles home with the fourth and final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Tech added two runs in the third inning. Meghan Knowles and Hale started the frame with back-to-back hits. One out later, Knowles scored on a sacrifice fly by Cross, making the score 6-0. Godwin then scored on a wild pitch for the second run of the frame.

Southern scored its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, the Jaguars loaded the bases with two singles and a fiedler's choice and then scored runs on two Lady Techster errors. Tech committed three errors in the game after not committing a single error in five straight games.

Neither team plated a run in the fourth inning before the Lady Techsters put the final touches on their third straight win by scoring four unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning. Tech did all of the damage with two outs as Hale reached on a fielding error, stole second base and scored on a single by Godwin through the right side. Cross then singled to put runners on first and third before Krueger hit her second home run in as many games to push the lead to 11-2.

Krueger (2 hits, HR, 3 RBI, 1 run), Miles (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Erin Kipp (1 hit, 1 RBI), Alayna Kipp (2 hits), Knowles (1 hit, 1 run), Frandrup (1 RBI), Hale (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 SB), Godwin (2 hits, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 1 SB) and Cross (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2 SB) led LA Tech's offensive onslaught.

As a team, the Lady Techsters also recorded five more stolen bases giving them 23 for the season through the first seven games.

Houston Baptist 5, LA Tech 4

Louisiana Tech took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning but Houston Baptist plated two runs on four hits and took the 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Lady Techsters.

Lady Techster starter Michelle Jones (3-1), who entered the game with a scoreless streak covering her last 23.2 innings of work in the circle, wasn't as sharp as she issued a season-high six walks while allowing a season high nine hits and five earned runs.

After trailing the majority of the game, Tech tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-out, solo home run from junior Erin Kipp.

The Huskies retook the lead at 3-2 with a single run in the top of the sixth before the Lady Techsters answered once again. Janna Frandrup and Meghan Knowles started the frame with back-to-back singles and then both scored when Dacia Hale lay down a sacrifice bunt and HBU pitcher Sarah Shotton threw wildly of first, allowing both runners to score. Tech led 4-3.

Tech had an opportunity to add to its lead with Hale on third and no outs, but Shotton retired the next three batters without allowing the insurance run to score.

In the top of the seventh, Houston Baptist recorded four hits, including a pair of doubles, as the Huskies retook the lead 5-4. In Tech's final at bat, Shotton retired all three batters in order to pick up the win.

Erin Kipp (2 hits, HR, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Amanda Krueger (1 double, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Frandrup (1 hit, 1 run), Knowles (1 hit, 2 runs), and Hale (2 RBI) led Tech offensively.
