Cody Sokol Named C-USA Newcomer of the Year

RUSTON, La. - After leading Louisiana Tech to a West Division title and an appearance in the league's championship game, quarterback Cody Sokol has been named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year.

Sokol led the Bulldogs to an 8-5 mark (7-1 in Conference USA play) and will continue to lead LA Tech over the next few weeks as the team prepares for the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl opposite Illinois on Dec. 26. He joined Louisiana Tech and Conference USA after transferring from Iowa.



A native of Phoenix, Sokol enters the bowl season ranke d11th in the nation in passing touchdowns (29) and 22nd in the nation in passing yards (3,189). He is 19th in the nation in points responsible for (186) and 33rd in the nation in passing yards per game (245.3).



Sokol took over the reins of Tech's passing game, leading the Bulldogs to six games where the team scored 40 or more points with three games scoring more than 50 points. Tech won the West Division of C-USA after entering the year projected to finish fourth.



This is Louisiana Tech's first superlative honor since joining Conference USA last year.
