Box Score

RUSTON - UTEP scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a 9-7 come-from-behind win over Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Conference USA series.

Trailing 6-1 through five innings, the Miners (12-17, 4-2 C-USA) capitalized on three LA Tech errors over the final two innings to score eight runs - five unearned - and sweep the series at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

UTEP cut the Tech lead to 7-5 with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh when Bianca Duran induced a ground ball to shortstop. However, Anna Cross' throw to first base was dropped, allowing the tying two runs to cross home plate as the Miners tied the score.

The next Miners batter then roped a double to straight away centerfield, scoring two more runs and giving UTEP a 9-7 lead.

In the bottom half of the seventh inning, Tech got singles from Duran and Courtney Lowe and both runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch with two outs. However, Alayna Kipp's line drive was snared at shortstop to end the game.

Tech took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Erin Kipp and Janine Godwin recorded back-to-back singles and then Pauline Tufi reached on an error. Duran drove home the first run on a fielder's choice ground ball that plated Kipp to make the score 1-0.

Katelynn Hill and Courtney Lowe then followed with back-to-back sacrifice flies to score runs as the lead increased to 3-0.

Following a solo home run by UTEP in the second, Tech added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning as Lowe doubled to left field, scoring Lindsey Neyland and Hill.

Tufi added to the lead in the fourth on a run-scoring double to right centerfield, scoring Godwin who had walked and stole second base.

UTEP cut the Tech lead to 6-3 in the sixth with two more runs. Tech plated its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Erin Kipp singled, stole second and scored on Godwin's RBI single.

Godwin (2-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Tufi (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 run), Lowe (2-3, 3 RBI), Charters (2-3), Erin Kipp (1-3, 2 runs, 1 SB), Duran (1-4, 1 RBI), Neyland (run, SB) and Hill (run, RBI, SB) led Tech offensively.
