NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Pauline Tufi hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning and then recorded the final three outs in the circle to lead Louisiana Tech to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Stephen F. Austin Tuesday evening at SFA Softball Field.
With Tech (16-25) trailing 2-1 heading into its final plate appearance, Kristen Miles singled up the middle with one out, her third hit of the contest. Tufi then launched a 2-2 offering from SFA starter Brittany Lewis deep over the left field wall, giving the Lady Techsters a 3-2 lead.
SFA (17-22) had one final chance in the bottom of the frame. After pinch hitter Cadie Weaver walked to lead off the inning, Tufi got SFA shortstop Elizabeth Arana to pop up a bunt to first baseman Bianca Duran for the first out. Shalie Day then laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Weaver to second base with two outs.
Tufi then induced a fly out by Katelyn Standley to end the game as Tech swept all three games from the Ladyjacks this season.
Tech took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Tori Charters singled off the glove of SFA third baseman Taylor LeFlore, scoring Hailey Winter from second base.
SFA tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out, RBI single up the middle by Lewis, scoring Arana who was hit by a pitch to lead the frame off.
The Ladyjacks took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
Tufi picked up the win, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out two in 4.2 innings of action.
Miles (3-4, 1 run), Tufi (1-4, HR, 2 RBI), Winter (2-3, 1 run), Hill (2-2), Charters (1-3, 1 RBI) led the Lady Techsters offensively.
