Box Score

RUSTON - Hailey Winter and Katelynn Hill each drove home two runs to lead Louisiana Tech to a 10-1 run rule win over Grambling State Tuesday afternoon at the GSU Softball Field.

Tech (18-27) improved to 11-0 all-time against the Tigers (11-20) and swept the season series after defeating GSU 4-1 in Ruston in mid-February.

The Lady Techsters recorded 11 hits in the game while scoring runs in each of the first four innings while Pauline Tufi and Bianca Duran limited the Tigers to one run on four hits.

Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Anna Cross and Winter each singled and Duran and Hill each drove home runs with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.

After retiring GSU in order in the bottom of the first, Tech responded by scoring four runs on five hits in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Tori Charters singled, Cross doubled and Kristen Miles walked to load the bases and then Tufi scored Charters on a sacrifice fly. Winter then singled to left center to score two more runs and Duran and Hill recorded back-to-back singles to drive home the final run of the frame.

GSU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second to close the gap to 6-1, but Tech countered with two more runs in the third. Courtney Lowe singled and Charters reached on an error as the Tigers threw the ball into the outfield on the bunt, allowing Lowe to score all the way from first base on the play. Following a Cross walk that put runners on the corners, Miles recorded an RBI ground out, scoring pinch runner Katelynn Cook.

Tech finished its scoring in the fourth inning as Hill singled and Lindsey Neyland walked. Lowe then recorded an RBI single to centerfield as Neyland also scored on the play on a fielding error by the GSU centerfielder.

Tufi (13-8) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits in 3.0 innings of action. Duran shut the Tigers out over the final 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit.

Cross (2-3, 1 run), Miles (2 runs, 1 RBI), Tufi (1 run, 1 RBI), Taylor Penn (1-1), Winter (2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI), Duran (1-2, 1 RBI), Hill (2-2, 1 run, 2 RBI), Neyland (1 run), Lowe (2-3, 1 run, 1 RBI), Charters (1-1, 1 run) and Cook (1 run) provide the Tech offense.

The Lady Techsters will travel to Northwestern State Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a single game before returning home to host East Carolina in a three-game C-USA series this weekend.
