@LATechFB Adds Quarterback Jeff Driskel to Roster

Jan. 7, 2015

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech announced Wednesday that former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel has officially joined the program and is expected to be eligible to play during the 2015 season.

One of the nation's top quarterbacks coming out of high school, Driskel spent four years at Florida where he threw for 3,411 yards, 23 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and completed 59.4 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 644 yards and nine touchdowns.

He joins a Louisiana Tech program that went 9-5 during the 2014 season with an appearance in the Conference USA Championship Game and a Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl championship over Illinois.

"I want to welcome Jeff to the LA Tech Family," said Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz. "He has received several accolades throughout his career and I am excited he is joining the program."

Driskel adds depth and experience to a young quarterback room. The Bulldogs return only one quarterback with collegiate football playing experience (Ryan Higgins) while two freshmen - Price Wilson and Alex Woodall - redshirted the 2014 season.

"There have been rumors going around that I am going to leave the University of Florida and transfer to Louisiana Tech University for my fifth and final year of eligibility. This is indeed true, and I look forward to the upcoming chapter of my life,'' Driskel said to the University of Florida Athletic Association in a statement Monday. "I have nothing but good things to say about the University of Florida and the football program there.

"I am grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me over the course of the past four years. Although things did not play out on the field as I would have liked, I have no regrets on the choice I made to attend UF. Again, I appreciate everything that my coaches, teammates, strength coaches, athletic trainers, equipment staff, academic staff, fans, and the University of Florida have done for me."

Driskel is expected to enroll at Louisiana Tech in March in time for spring football practice.

Louisiana Tech looks to defend its C-USA West Division title in 2015 after winning the division with a 7-1 league record last season.
