@LATechFB Trio Net Senior Bowl Invites

Nov. 24, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - Louisiana Tech matched another top program mark Tuesday as the Reese's Senior Bowl announced that three Bulldogs -- Vernon Butler, Kenneth Dixon and Jeff Driskel -- have accepted invitations to the premier collegiate all-star game.

The announcement marks just the second time in Louisiana Tech history that the Bulldogs have had three players selected for the Senior Bowl in a single year. The trio will become the 19th, 20th and 21st players to receive a Senior Bowl invitation, respectively, from Louisiana Tech.

Currently, Conference USA only has four players who have accepted with the Bulldog trio joining Middle Tennessee safety Kevin Byard.

With the announcement, Louisiana Tech will now have 10 players representing the Bulldogs at the Senior Bowl since the 2010 season.

Butler leads a dominant defensive line that is ranked ninth in the nation and first in Conference USA in rush defense while the senior was projected as the No. 3 draft pick from Group of 5 schools by Scouts, Inc. He has registered 42 total tackles, nine tackles for a loss and a team-leading seven quarterback hurries this season as he has recorded a tackle for a loss in all but one Conference USA game this season.

One of the most prolific players to every play college football, Dixon is third in NCAA history in career touchdowns and is currently the nation's active career leader in rushing yards. His six rushing touchdowns set a new Conference USA record and tied is own school record that he set in 2012 as he became just the third player in NCAA history to run for six or more touchdowns in a game on two separate occasions. He has currently scored more touchdowns this season than four different teams.

Driskel has guided this year's offense to a school record 10 consecutive games of 400-plus yards of total offense. Through only 11 games this year the 2015 squad ranks seventh in school history in total yards (5,148) and fourth in total points (417). His five interceptions are the second-fewest in Conference USA and his 292.7 passing yards per game ranks 16th in the nation, better than any ACC or Big Ten quarterback.

The only other time Louisiana Tech had three players selected for the Senior Bowl came following the 2012 season as punter Ryan Allen, tackle Jordan Mills and wide receiver Quinton Patton played in the 2013 Senior Bowl. All three, as well as 2014 Senior Bowl invitees defensive tackle Justin Ellis and then-defensive end IK Enemkpali, are currently on NFL rosters.

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw was the first Bulldog to play in the Senior Bowl as he was invited for the 1970 all-star game along with tight end Larry Brewer.

Butler, Dixon and Driskel and the rest of the Bulldogs continue preparations this week to host Southern Miss in the Rivalry in Dixie game at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, Louisiana on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. The regular season finale for both teams with identical 8-3 (6-1 C-USA) records will determine the league's West Division champion and representative in the Conference USA Championship Game.
