Feb. 10, 2015 JACKSON, Miss. - After opening the season with five straight home games, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster softball team will travel to face Jackson State Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT.
Both teams enter the game with identical 2-3 records after the opening weekend of the season. The Lady Techsters posted wins over UAPB (6-0) and Abilene Christian (3-0) while dropping games to ULM, SIUE and Missouri State. Jackson State registered wins over Houston (3-1) and Houston Baptist (7-4) while falling to Southern Miss, Lamar and Eastern Kentucky.
Through the first five games, the Lady Techsters are led offensively by Tori Charters (.455, 2 runs), Krysta Tutsch (.364, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Kassie Harris (.333, 3 RBI) and Karlee Jensen (.250, 1 RBI). As a team Tech is batting .238 with four doubles and four home runs.
In the circle, Tech has three options for Wednesday's game, including Bianca Duran (1-3, 3.78 ERA), Pauline Tufi (0-0, 1 save, 4.50 ERA) and Carolina Sanchez (1-0, 1.56 ERA). Sanchez and Tufi combined to throw a seven inning no hitter in the win over Arkansas Pine Bluff, the first by a LA Tech team since 2005.
Following Wednesday's game, LA Tech will travel to Starkville, Mississippi to compete in the February Freezer hosted by Mississippi State. The Lady Techsters will open the tournament Thursday night at 4 p.m. against the undefeated host Bulldogs (5-0).
LA Tech will also play Lamar (Friday at 10 a.m.), UT-Martin (Saturday at 9 a.m.) and Illinois (Saturday at 4:30 p.m.) at the tournament. Fans can follow all of the action for the tournament at www.hailstate.com.
