DALLAS - Louisiana Tech was able to send three singles matches into super tiebreakers, but ultimately fell 5-2 to SMU on Wednesday evening at the SMU Tennis Complex.

"We played well at spots, but we cannot be hot and cold on six courts," head coach Chad Camper said. "We need to find a better way to compete when things are not going our way. We are still building and are confident that a couple of things are going to go our way as the season progresses."

LA Tech (1-6) found itself in a 1-0 hole after dropping the doubles point with losses at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Merker had the lone win, 6-4, at No. 3 for the Lady Techsters.

SMU (3-0) put LA Tech in a deeper hole after picking up straight set victories at courts four and six. The clincher for the home team followed soon thereafter with Dasha Sharapova besting Marta Sramkova, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3.

The remaining three matches were played out and the Techsters were going to go down fighting. All three split the first two sets and went into a 10-point tiebreaker.

Jazmin Britos battled to take a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) victory at No. 2 while Alexandra Starkova extended her singles winning streak to five with a hard fought victory of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (11-9) at No. 1.

The win by Starkova handed the Mustang's Hristina Dishkova her first loss of the spring season.

LA Tech will have 10 days off before starting a five-match home stand beginning on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a doubleheader against Tyler Junior College and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
