RUSTON - Pauline Tufi and Janine Godwin each homered twice and Louisiana Tech totaled six bombs in completing a doubleheader sweep over Lamar Friday, defeating the Cardinals 12-0 and 10-6 at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Due to the forecast for Saturday, the third game of the series will not be played.

Game 1 - LA Tech 12, Lamar 0 (5 innings)

Louisiana Tech exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a five-inning 12-0 victory over Lamar in the first game of the doubleheader.

Tech (9-5) sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, capitalizing on six hits, three walks and two Lamar errors as the Lady Techsters built an early advantage. Anna Cross and Tori Charters walked to open the frame and Cross came home for the first run of the game on a fielder's choice ground out by Pauline Tufi that led to a throwing error by Lamar.

Following a Kristen Miles walk that put runners on the corners, junior Krysta Tutsch hit a towering three-run home run deep over the centerfield field giving LA Tech a 4-0 lead. It was Tutsch's sixth home run of the season and her fifth in the last seven games.

Bianca Duran singles and Godwin followed with a double to left centerfield. Katie Smith singled down the left field line, driving home Duran as the lead increased to 5-0. With runners on the corners, Smith and Godwin pulled off a perfectly executed double steal as Godwin crossed home plate for the sixth run of the inning. Karlee Jensen then singled up the middle, scoring Smith and completing the scoring for Tech in the frame.

Duran cruised in the circle for Tech with the seven-run lead, never allowing more than one runner on base during the five innings of work. Duran (6-5) picked up the win, shutting out the Cardinals while allowing only four hits and no walks in 5.0 innings of action.

Tech put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs on five hits. After the first two batters were retired, Tufi doubled and Kassie Harris walked. Tutsch then singled to right field, scoring pinch runner Courtney Lowe.

Duran then doubled to left centerfield, plating pinch runners Kristen Miles and Casey Ingram as the lead ballooned to 10-0. Godwin then hit only the second home run of her career - a two-run shot - over the right field wall, scoring Duran and giving the Lady Techsters a 12-0 lead.

Offensively, Tech was led by Tutsch (2-3, 1 run, 4 RBI, HR), Duran (2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI), Godwin (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, HR), Smith (2-3, 1 run, 1 RBI), Cross (1-2, 1 run), Charters (1-2), Tufi (1-3, 1 run), Lowe (1 run), Miles (2 runs), Ingram (1 run), Lindsey Neyland (1 run) and Jensen (1-2, 1 RBI).

Game 2 - LA Tech 10, Lamar 6

Louisiana Tech used a seven-run third inning to blow open a close game as the Lady Techsters hit four home runs in the 10-6 win over Lamar in the second game of the doubleheader.

Tech scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning as Karlee Jensen laid down a successful suicide squeeze bunt, scoring Janine Godwin who was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a wild pitch and ground out.

Lamar responded in the top of the third inning against Tech reliever Carolina Sanchez. The freshman walked the leadoff batter and one out later another Cardinal reached on a throwing error by Anna Cross. Sanchez then issued a free pass to load the bases, prompting Tech head coach Mark Montgomery to make a pitching change.

Bianca Duran entered the game with the bases loaded and one out and surrendered a two-run single to Shannon Sain as the Cardinals grabbed a 2-1 lead. However, Duran stranded the bases loaded by inducing a ground ball out to end the threat.

Tech wasted little time in answering, sending 12 batters to the plate for the second time on the afternoon. After Lamar starter Laura Napoli retired the leadoff batter, Pauline Tufi hit a line drive home run over the right centerfield fence to tie the game at 2-2. Kassie Harris then singled and Krysta Tutsch was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for Bianca Duran, who launched a three-run home run to right field giving the Lady Techsters a 5-2 lead.

Following a pitching change by Lamar, Janine Godwin - who entered the day with only one career home run - followed Duran's blast with an opposite field solo home run, her second of the day. Tech led 6-2. Katie Smith and Karlee Jensen then recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on the corner for Anna Cross, who lifted a fly ball to deep centerfield for a sacrifice fly RBI, scoring Smith. Two batters later, Harris drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the seventh run of the frame.

Lamar scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run, but Tech answered once again. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jensen singled and three batters later, Tufi hit a blast approximately 275 feet deep over the left field wall for a two-run home run. Tech led 10-3.

The Cardinals scored three runs on a three-run home run in the seventh, but Duran recorded the final three outs to pick up her second win of the day. Duran (6-5) allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk in 4.2 innings of relief.

Offensively, Tech was led by Tufi (3-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 2 HR), Jensen (2-2, 1 run, 1 RBI), Duran (1-4, 1 run, 3 RBI, HR), Godwin (1-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI, HR), Cross (1 RBI), Charters (1-3), Katelynn Cook (1 run), Miles (1 run), Tutsch (1 run), Smith (1-3, 1 run), and Harris (1-2, 1 RBI).
