@LATechSB Heads to Baton Rouge For Weekend Play

Feb. 26, 2015

RUSTON - Mother Nature has not been kind to outdoor sports over the last week in the north Louisiana area as rain, sleet and snow have cancelled numerous sporting events.

Mark Montgomery and the Lady Techster softball team are no strangers to the dilemma as Tech's last four games have been affected by the elements. This weekend the Lady Techsters are going to play; only not in Ruston.

Following the winter weather that hit the area in the early part of the week, Montgomery had to find a creative way to get some games in this weekend. Tech was originally scheduled to host Southern and Detroit in a round robin Saturday and Sunday, but with the Lady Techster Softball Complex too wet to handle the wear and tear of games, Montgomery called Southern head coach John Garris.

Garris - a former Lady Techster assistant under Montgomery - received approval from his administration and the weekend tournament will now be played in Baton Rouge at Southern.

Saturday's games include Tech vs. Southern (10 a.m.), Tech vs. Detroit (12:30 p.m.) and Southern vs. Detroit (3 p.m.). Sunday's schedule includes Tech vs. Detroit (10 a.m.), Tech vs. Southern (12:30 p.m.) and Detroit vs. Southern (3 p.m.). Fans can follow the action through Gametracker at LATechSports.com and by following Twitter updates on @LATechSB.

Tech (9-5) hasn't played since sweeping a doubleheader from Lamar 12-0 and 10-6 in Ruston on Feb. 20. The Lady Techsters have won six of their last seven games with the lone setback being a 7-5 loss to Top 10 ranked LSU.

The Lady Techsters boast a power supply through 14 games that has opposing teams running to the fences. Tech has belted 16 home runs in 14 games, a far improvement from last year's team that hit only 18 total in 52 games.

Tech's top power sources have been Krysta Tutsch (.455, 6 HR, 18 RBI), Bianca Duran (.310, 4 doubles, 3 HR, 17 RBI) and Pauline Tufi (.308, 4 doubles, 3 HR, 8 RBI) although the Lady Techsters have received production throughout the lineup.

In the circle, Tech has relied upon Duran (6-5, 3.98 ERA), Tufi (1-0, 3.16 ERA) and Carolina Sanchez (2-0, 2.62 ERA).
