MONROE - Louisiana Tech rallied from an early deficit to tie the game, but ULM got a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning lifting the Warhawks to a 3-2 victory Tuesday night.
ULM grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Alex Cacioppo lined her third home run of the season over the centerfield fence off Lady Techster starter Bianca Duran. The home run came off a change up which hung over the middle of the plate.
Duran settled down and kept ULM scoreless over the next two innings before giving way to freshman Bailey Allen.
Tech finally plated a run in the top of the fourth inning on Pauline Tufi's 10th home run of the season, a laser shot to straight away centerfield cutting the ULM lead to 2-1.
The Lady Techsters tied the game in the fifth inning. With two outs, Karlee Jensen singled through the left side and then scored on an RBI double by Katie Smith to deep left centerfield.
ULM threatened in the bottom of the fifth as the leadoff hitter singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. However, Smith then made the defensive play of the night, jumping high in the air at shortstop to snare a line drive and double off the ULM runner at second base.
Tech had an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the sixth inning as Anna Cross singled and Kassie Harris walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Duran then lined a pitch to straight away centerfield that was caught for the final out.
ULM finally took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. A two-out walk, a stolen base and a ground ball single up the middle plated the game-winning run.
Allen (6-2) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits in 3.0 innings of action.
Tech returns to action Wednesday when it travels to face McNeese State at 5 p.m.
