FWAA Names @LATechFB DE Jaylon Ferguson to Freshman All-America Team

Jan. 11, 2016

DALLAS - Jaylon Ferguson was honored again as the Football Writers Association of America named the Louisiana Tech defensive end to its 2015 Freshman All-America Team.

Ferguson is one of two Conference USA players named to the team (alongside Middle Tennessee's Richie James) and joins LSU's William Clapp as one of two players from Louisiana honored. Conference USA was the only Group of 5 conference with multiple honorees.

The list marked the FWAA's 15th year in naming a Freshman All-America team. Incoming FWAA president Mark Anderson led the 10-person panel of nationally-prominent writers that represent each of the FBS conferences in the selecting the team. Both true freshmen (19 players) and redshirt freshmen (10 players) were considered for the team and are so noted on the list below.

Ferguson led the Bulldog defense with 15.0 tackles for a loss of 65 yards and 6.0 sacks for a loss of 49 yards in a freshman campaign in which he started five games. He tallied a sack in every start except one, registered 35 total tackles (22 solo, 13 assisted) and was credited with eight quarterback hurries.

The St. Francisville, Louisiana native forced two fumbles on the year and broke up one pass. Twice he recorded two sacks in a game, once in a win over UTSA and again in LA Tech's victory over Middle Tennessee.

Ferguson became just the second recorded Louisiana Tech player to receive Freshman All-America honors when The Sporting News listed him on its Freshman All-America Team in December, joining Kenneth Dixon in 2012.
