Oct. 16, 2016 RUSTON, La. - After putting together an incredible offensive performance Saturday in Louisiana Tech's 56-28 victory over Massachusetts, Carlos Henderson has been named the Walter Camp Football Foundation's National Player of the Week, it was announced by the organization Sunday.
Henderson is the first Louisiana Tech player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since the award began in 2004. The Walter Camp Football Foundation honors one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
A week after registering 232 yards and three touchdowns against WKU, Henderson followed up that performance with 12 catches for 326 yards and five touchdowns in LA Tech's win over UMass Saturday. His 326 yards tied for eighth place all-time in NCAA history for most receiving yards in a single-game.
Henderson's 326 receiving yards are the second-most in both LA Tech and Conference USA history, while his five touchdowns tied both the school and C-USA record. Henderson also became just the third FBS player in the last 10 years to have 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns in back-to-back games. He also became the first receiver in NCAA history to have at least 325 yards and five touchdowns in a single game.
After his career-game against the Minutemen, Henderson is now tied for the FBS lead with 10 touchdowns on the season, while he is ranked first in the nation with 147.3 yards per game. He now has 42 catches on the season for 884 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His 884 receiving yards is ranked third nationally among FBS players.
In addition to earning the weekly honor from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Henderson was also named the National Offensive Player of the Week by two additional outlets ââ'¬" the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) and College Sports Madness.
