Dec. 1, 2016 IRVING, Texas - For the third consecutive year, Louisiana Tech senior safety Xavier Woods has been voted to the 2016 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Football All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.
Ten different schools were represented on the 11-member all-academic team with Southern Miss placing two student-athletes on the list.
Woods is one of four student-athletes to earn Conference USA All-Academic honors multiple times, while he is just one of two players to be named to the list three years in a row along with Old Dominion's Tyler Compton.
Woods, who is ranked eighth in the nation and first in Conference USA with five interceptions this season, carries a 3.50 GPA as a senior majoring in business marketing. The starting safety has totaled 77 tackles this season, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in addition to his team-high five interceptions.
He is ranked third nationally among active career leaders with 14 career interceptions, a mark that ranks as the third-most in Louisiana Tech history. Woods is two interceptions away from tying the school record, which is 16 held by Doyle Adams (1982-85).
Woods and the Bulldogs are gearing up to face off against WKU in the 2016 Dynacraft Conference USA Football Championship Game, which is set for 11 a.m. CT Saturday, Dec. 3 at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky. LA Tech and WKU faced each other in the regular season in a game the Bulldogs won, 55-52, in Ruston on Oct. 6.
