Grambling, La. - Entering today's game against Grambling, Louisiana Tech led Conference USA in run production and with the Techsters offensive performance today, that lead will only increase.
The Louisiana Tech (17-9) bats were red hot as the Lady Techsters dominated Grambling State (3-16) 26-0 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon in Grambling.
On the afternoon, 12 different Lady Techsters recorded a hit, while seven of those players drove in multiple runs.
Freshman Berkley Calapp stole the show, launching her first career home run over the left field wall in the fourth inning. The Colorado native duplicated the feat the following inning with another home run into the woods beyond the left field wall.
Calapp, who finished the day with a team-high 6 RBIs, was not the only Lady Techsters to send one over the fence for the first time. Senior Courtney Lowe found the other side of the wall with a solo home run in the fifth inning, the first of her career.
"I am so proud of both Courtney and Berkley for their first career home runs," head coach Mark Montgomery said. "Lately, Berkley has been hitting the ball really well in practice and I am glad to see that carry over to a game."
Lindsey Neyland recorded her first multi-hit game of the season, one of which was a bases-clearing triple, as the senior drove in four runs in the contest.
Bailey Allen got the start in the circle for Louisiana Tech and struck out six batters in just two scoreless innings. Carolina Sanchez (4-4), who earned the victory, threw two scoreless innings and struck out five. Preslee Gallaway threw the final inning and did not allow a Tiger to reach base.
The 26 runs scored are the most by a Louisiana Tech team since 2004, when the Lady Techsters beat Jackson State 30-0, to open the season.
Louisiana Tech will be out of action this weekend in Conference USA play, before hosting a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday against Alcorn State and Northwestern State.
