Box Score April 12, 2016 Final Stats
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech pushed across three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Techsters fell to Northwestern State (23-16) 11-9 on Tuesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
LA Tech (21-14) gave up nine runs in the first three innings and while the Lady Techsters did score six themselves during that stretch, they could never quite close the deficit.
Katie Smith continued swinging a red-hot bat, as the sophomore recorded a career-high five RBIs in the win, including a three-run home run to left field in the second inning.
Both Louisiana Tech home runs came in that frame, as Morgan Turkoly opened the bottom of the second with a towering solo home run to centerfield.
The Lady Techsters had opportunities to push more runs across, but left the bases loaded in both the third and fourth innings.
LA Tech trailed 11-6 entering the bottom of the seventh and the game-tying run got as close as second base.
With bases loaded, Anna Cross singled to bring home a run and Natalie Moran came up with a crucial two-RBI single to push two runs across. With the Techsters trailing 11-9, that left runners on second and third with just one out.
Unfortunately, consecutive hard-hit balls found the gloves of Lady Demons, including the final out which was caught on the warning track.
Carolina Sanchez (4-9) was credited with the loss, while Shelby Sells (9-8) got the victory.
Louisiana Tech is back in action tomorrow when they host Mississippi State at 5:30 p.m.
Admission to the game is free and the first 200 fans will receive free pizza.
