RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" It was a special Saturday afternoon for the Louisiana Tech tennis team, in particular the three seniors of Alexandra Starkova, Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Merker.

Pregame, the trio was greeted with balloons, flowers, letterman plaques and applauses to honor all of their hard work they have put into the nationally-ranked program on senior day.

They then capped the day off by leading the Lady Techsters to a 7-0 shutout win over Jackson State (7-16) at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

Since showing up in Ruston in 2013, the group has racked up 51 total victories at LA Tech (14-5) with No. 51 coming in dominating fashion.

"It was a great day with great tennis for our seniors on their special day," head coach Chad Camper said. "The whole community came together to honor them and the team played with a lot of passion. They fought hard and were efficient throughout the match."

The doubles point came from Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova winning 6-0 on court two and Starkova teaming up with Zoe Chen to claim a 6-2 victory on court one.

Chiacchio and Merker quickly made it a 3-0 advantage in favor of the Techsters in singles. Merker got things started with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot. Chiacchio soon followed by breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5.

Britos came up with the clincher from the No. 2 position by winning handily by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Starkova, Chen and Sramkova also notched straight-set victories to preserve the shutout.

Next up for LA Tech is its final home match of the season which takes place on Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m. versus Central Arkansas.
