Box Score May 12, 2016 DENTON, Texas - After five innings, Louisiana Tech (32-21) had the 22nd ranked team in the nation on the ropes and tied 2-2, but a bizarre play on the infield led to a 7-4 win for Florida Atlantic (48-7) in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Denton, Texas.
The Lady Techsters season isn't over though, as LA Tech will take on the loser of UAB and Southern Miss tomorrow at 12 p.m. in an elimination game.
After Florida Atlantic jumped out to a 2-0 lead, LA Tech scored two in the fourth inning to tie it.
With two outs and Kylee Hanson rolling in the circle, Morgan Turkoly singled to right field, giving Louisiana Tech their first hit of the game.
Taria Page blasted a towering two-run home run to centerfield to knot the game at two and all of a sudden the momentum swung towards the Louisiana Tech dugout.
Bailey Allen was rolling in the circle, retiring 11 straight Owls, until the bottom of the sixth inning.
After a lead-off double from Carnesha Thompson, Emily Lochten reached base on what can be called anything but a routine play. A sharp grounder to third, the throw from Cross ricocheted off of the head of Louisiana Tech pitcher Bailey Allen. When the dust settled, the Owls had runners on second and third with nobody out.
The Lady Techsters were forced to make a call to the bullpen for Preslee Gallaway, but the momentum was back with the nationally-ranked Owls. An RBI-single up the middle from Tatum Buckley gave FAU a 4-2 lead.
The Owls would score three more runs in the inning to take a commanding 7-2 lead.
LA Tech wouldn't go quietly in the seventh as a two single from Tori Charters was followed up by a two-run home run from Anna Cross. Unfortunately, that would be all for Louisiana Tech as they dropped to the losers bracket of the Conference USA Tournament.
Kylee Hanson picked up the win, her 27th of the season, despite giving up four earned runs.
While tomorrow's opponent is still to be determined, the game will be broadcast on ESPN 97.7. If the Lady Techsters win that game, they would move on to the final game of the losers bracket at 5 p.m.
