May 19, 2016 RUSTON, La. - When the all-region awards were announced on Thursday morning, two Lady Techsters picked up their first career regional honors as Anna Cross and Morgan Turkoly were named third team all-Mideast by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The announcement marks the first time since 1998 that the Lady Techsters had two players pick up the all-region honors.
Turkoly was the lone freshman in Conference USA to pick up all-region honors, adding it to a trophy case that already features all-conference, all-freshmen and all-tournament honors.
Cross, who was also named second team all-Conference USA, batted .314 and led Louisiana Tech in 2016 with 48 runs, 14 home runs, a .639 slugging percentage, nine doubles, 33 walks and 108 total bases.
The Cross Roads, Texas native became just the second player in Louisiana Tech history to hit 30 or more home runs in a career, while also driving in 120 runs.
Turkoly batted .333 on the season which ranked second on the team, while also leading the Lady Techsters with 55 hits, 43 RBI and a .433 on-base percentage. The freshman also blasted 10 home runs and hit eight doubles.
Turkoly set the Louisiana Tech freshman record for runs scored (55), total bases (95), home runs, RBI, walks (27) and slugging percentage (.576).
