LA Tech - Ole Miss Box Score
RUSTON, La. - For the third time this season, the Lady Techsters fell just short of a signature SEC-win dropping a 3-1 decision to Ole Miss (37-17) on Wednesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Preslee Gallaway came on in relief for Louisiana Tech (29-19), tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit over that span, but the Lady Techster bats could not find an answer for Rebel starter Elisha Jahnke. Jahnke went the distance for Ole Miss throwing a complete game with a Krysta Tutsch solo home run being the lone blemish to the sophomore's line.
Bailey Allen got the start in the circle for Louisiana Tech, looking to duplicate her performance over the past few weeks in conference play, but Ole Miss got on the board early with the first two Rebels reaching base on singles to open the ball game. A two-RBI double from Ashton Lampton brought both home and gave Ole Miss an early 2-0 lead.
LA Tech would get their only run of the game in the bottom of the second as Tutsch sent a 2-1 pitch over the right field wall for a solo home run.
Unfortunately for the Lady Techsters, Ole Miss would immediately grab that run back as Lampton delivered another RBI-extra base hit, this time a triple to right field, extending the Rebels lead to 3-1.
Gallaway would enter in the top of the fifth and following a one-out double, went on to retire the next eight Rebel batters she faced.
Louisiana Tech could only muster one base runner the rest of the way, a single from Anna Cross, sealing a 3-1 loss to the Rebels.
The Lady Techsters will hit the road for Conference USA play this weekend with a trip to Charlotte. One victory by LA Tech will clinch a berth in the 2016 Conference USA Tournament in Denton, Texas next week.
