LA Tech Hosts Clemson Monday

Dec. 3, 2017

RUSTON ââ'¬" Louisiana Tech hopes to snap a two-game losing streak Monday night when the Lady Techsters hosts Clemson at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.

The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM, KTKC 92.9 FM and KJVC 92.7 FM as well as the Louisiana Tech X mobile app. Fans can access a video stream of the game through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.

The Lady Techsters (4-3) have dropped back-to-back games against Niagara and No. 2 Texas after opening the season with wins in four of their first five games. Clemson (6-2) enters the contest with back-to-back victories and boasting one of the top defensive teams in the nation.

This marks the fourth P5 team in the last five games for the Lady Techsters who do own an impressive 71-59 win over Penn State in Las Vegas. However, head coach Brooke Stoehr knows Monday is another opportunity for her young team to improve against a formidable opponent.

"These games are more about us than the opponent," said Stoehr. "Clemson is a very good defensive team with some great athletes. They are holding teams below 50 points a game through eight games. That's impressive. They do a lot of things really well.

"We will have to do a good job of taking care of the basketball, an area that we have struggled with in our losses this year. We have to play with more confidence, and we have to play fundamentally sound. We have to play in a stance. We have to make the easy passes. We have to set better screens. There are a lot of areas that we have to get better. This is another opportunity to do just that."

Clemson ranks in the top 10 in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.309) and points allowed per game (49.6) while forcing almost 20 turnovers per game. The Tigers are coming off a 66-30 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday while its two losses have come to South Carolina and Buffalo.

Guard Danielle Edwards (11.6 ppg) is the lone double digit scorer for a Clemson team that has struggled offensively at times. The Tigers are averaging 54.5 points per game and shooting only 34 percent from the field and 23 percent from the three-point line.

The Lady Techsters are 3-0 at the Thomas Assembly Center this season and have won seven straight home games dating back to last season.

Kierra Anthony (12.6 ppg), Alexus Malone (12.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and Taylor Stahly (11.1 ppg, 20-44 three-pointers) lead Louisiana Tech offensively. Stahly ranks as one of the top three-point threats in Conference USA and has hit at least two three-pointers in all seven games this season, including five in Tech's win over Penn State.

Tech has also received production off of its bench this year as Anna McLeod, Maria Delgado, and Nikki McDonald have all recorded at least one double digit scoring game. Freshmen Amber Dixon (5.0 apg) and Raizel Guinto (3.7 ppg) continue to run the point guard position for the Lady Techsters. Dixon ranks No. 2 in Conference USA in assists per game while Guinto is averaging 6.5 points per game in the last three contests.

Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against Clemson 3-1 although the Tigers won 78-67 in overtime last season.
