VICKSBURG, Mississippi ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team notched win No. 10 on the spring season with a 7-0 shutout over Alcorn State on Tuesday afternoon at the Halls Ferry Tennis Courts.

With the victory, LA Tech (10-7) reached the double-digit milestone for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. The Lady Techsters swept all three doubles matches and all six singles courts versus Alcorn (7-13) to run their winning streak to a season-best three.

"We had a couple of milestones we wanted to reach this match," head coach Amanda Stone. "The team reaching 10 wins and Jazmin, Nadja and Alba all reaching 10 wins in singles. Having won three straight now, we want to keep building on this success, especially with a tough opponent in SMU coming up. We will really focus this week on our mental toughness going into that match."

The duo of senior Jazmin Britos and junior Alba Escalona Perny got things started with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. It was their sixth victory of the season and fourth straight, all coming from the top position.

Clinching the doubles point was the tandem of freshman Nadja Manjon and senior Marta Sramkova who won 6-2 at No. 3. Sophomore Sonia Chen and freshman Jill van den Dungen also teamed up, battling back from 2-1 to win five straight games and the match.

Chen quickly gave the Lady Techsters a 2-0 lead in the match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Klavdija Bukovec on court three. She is now a perfect 4-0 in duals playing at that position.

Dungen made it 3-0 in favor of LA Tech by downing Veronika Pytlikova by a score of 6-2, 6-2 on court six. Seconds later, Sramkova clinched the match with the same score playing right next to Dungen on court five.

The first insurance point came from Britos who picked up her 10th singles victory of the season, overpowering Daria Chemodanova 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. This marked the fourth straight year Britos has reached double-digit singles wins.

The remaining two courts were battles. At No. 4, Perny battled back from dropping the first set, 6-1, to taking the second set, 6-4.

After missing out on two match point opportunities in the third set super breaker, she took the next point to make it 10-9 and then hit a perfect running lob that landed right on the baseline just over her opponent Natalia Parchowska to win her 10th singles match of the year.

A similar match was being played out at No. 2. Manjon dropped the first set, 7-5, to Bianca Birkenstock, but she fought back to win the second set, 6-2, and force a third set super breaker.

She fell behind 4-1 in the breaker, but rallied to win nine of the next 11 points to also pick up her 10th singles win of the spring. Manjon became the ninth freshman in the last 20 years to reach double-digit victories in singles.

LA Tech will now take its three-match winning streak to Dallas on Sunday, March 26 at SMU. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
