RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech continues Conference USA play this weekend as the Bulldogs hit the road for the seventh and final time in the regular season to take on Southern Miss in a league matchup in Hattiesburg.
Â
The game is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg and will be streamed live on Facebook through Stadium with Noah Coslov (play-by-play), Max Starks (analysis) and Dani Klupenger (sideline) calling all the action.
Â
"Southern Miss is a very talented football team with great team speed with the way they run to the ball and they play the game very physical," head coach
Skip Holtz said in his weekly press conference. "You always say in a rivalry game that you can throw out all the records, but I do not think the record of this football team shows how much talent they have and how good of a football team they are. They have lost a couple of close games, but it is going to be a heck of a challenge playing on the road at their place."
Â
Louisiana Tech enters Saturday's game with a 7-3 overall record with the Bulldogs having won four of their last five games. LA Tech heads to Hattiesburg with a 5-1 record in Conference USA games including three league wins on the road. Last weekend, the Bulldogs took care of business at home with a 28-13 victory over the Rice Owls in Ruston.
Â
Southern Miss comes into the weekend with a 4-5 overall record and 3-3 mark in C-USA play with the Golden Eagles needing to win their final two games in order to be bowl eligible for the fourth straight season. Southern Miss is coming off a tough 26-23 overtime loss to UAB last weekend on the road, but the Golden Eagles have been impressive on its home turf this season with a 4-1 record in games played at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Â
LA Tech and Southern Miss will meet for the 50th time in the series history on Saturday afternoon with the Golden Eagles holding a 34-15 advantage in the all-time series, including an 18-7 record in games played in Hattiesburg. Southern Miss enters the matchup having won three straight against LA Tech, including a 34-27 double overtime victory over the Bulldogs last season in Ruston.

Â
PREGAME NOTES
Â
- The Bulldogs are aiming for their eighth win of the season and their fifth road win of the campaign this weekend. LA Tech has won five straight C-USA road games dating back to last season. If the 'Dogs were to win their fifth road game of the season on Saturday, it would mark just the fourth time in the last 30 years the program has won five road games in a season (along with the 1999, 2011 and 2012 teams).
Â
- Louisiana Tech's 28-13 win over Rice last weekend gave the Bulldogs their seventh win of the 2018 season, putting them in rare company. LA Tech became the only school in Conference USA to win seven or more games in each of the last five years (2014: 9; 2015: 9; 2016: 9; 2017: 7; 2018: 7).
Â
- With 12.5 sacks in 2018, Bulldog defensive end Jaylon Ferguson has already broken the LA Tech and C-USA record for career sacks (40.0). Ferguson leads the country this season with his 12.5 sacks recorded, while he is only four sacks shy of matching the NCAA career sack record, which is held by Terrell Suggs.
Â
- The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 7-3 overall record, making them one of only 15 schools in the nation with seven or more wins in each of the last five years. Of those 15 schools, Louisiana Tech is one of only four non-Power 5 at least seven wins in the last five seasons. Thirteen additional teams have won seven games over the past four seasons and have a chance to get to seven wins again in 2018.
Â
- When Louisiana Tech defeated Florida Atlantic on Oct. 26, it marked the sixth win of the season for Skip Holtz and the Bulldogs, meaning LA Tech became the only C-USA school that has reached bowl eligibility for the fifth straight season. Following LA Tech's 51-10 win over SMU in the 2017 DXL Frisco Bowl, the Bulldogs became one of only four schools in the nation to win four straight bowl games (along with Georgia, Utah and Wisconsin).
