@LATechWBB Travels to face No. 19 Arizona State

Techsters, Sun Devils meet for first time since 1982

TEMPE, Arizona – Louisiana Tech will face its toughest task of the young season Saturday when the Lady Techsters play 19th-ranked Arizona State in the first round of the ASU Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.

Tipoff against the host Sun Devils is set for 2 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Fans can tune into the contest on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM (Ruston) and KJVC 92.7 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also access a free audio stream though the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.

Alabama and Tulsa will play the second game Saturday with the winners of the two games playing in the championship game Sunday. The two losers of Saturday's first round match-ups will face off in the consolation game Sunday.

Tech (4-2) saw its three-game winning streak snapped in its last outing in a 70-56 loss at Wichita State Saturday. The loss also snapped a six-game road win streak for the Lady Techsters.

A trio of guards are pacing LA Tech offensively, led by seniors Kierra Anthony (22.5 ppg) and Taylor Stahly (14.2 ppg, 20-59 three-pointers) and sophomore Raizel Guinto (10.0 ppg, 10-20 three-pointers). Senior Zhanae Whitney (7.0 rpg) and junior Grayson Bright (7.2 rpg) are leading Tech on the boards as both have recorded multiple double digit rebound games this year.

The meeting between the Lady Techsters and the Sun Devils (3-2) will be only the second ever. Then No. 1-ranked LA Tech defeated No. 17 Arizona State 92-54 in the regional semifinals of the 1982 NCAA Tournament at Memorial Gym in Ruston. Tech would win the second of back-to-back national titles.

Arizona State's two losses this year both came by single digits to Top 10 ranked opponents, falling 65-59 to Baylor and 58-56 to Louisville. The Sun Devils wins are over Arkansas, Southern Illinois and Incarnate Word.

Arizona State boasts a balanced offensive attack with only one player averaging in double figures (Kianna Ibis, 12.4 ppg) while nine different Sun Devils are averaging 5.0 points per game or more.

Tech is 36-9 all-time against current members of the Pac-12.
