RUSTON ââ'¬" Louisiana Tech senior Alexus Malone was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Player of the Week following her performance in the Lady Techsters two wins.

The Oxford, Mississippi native averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 63 percent from the field in leading the Lady Techsters to wins over Rice and UTEP.

Malone led Tech to a 75-55 win over Rice, a team that entered the game having won 12 of its last 13. Malone scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds while adding a team-high five assists and three steals in the victory.

Three days later, Malone led Tech to a big road win in El Paso, snapping the Lady Techsters five-game losing streak at the Don Haskins Center. Malone scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while adding two blocks and two steals, marking her sixth double double of the year.

Malone and the Lady Techsters will host Charlotte Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
