March 12, 2018 RUSTON, La. -- For the second straight year Louisiana Tech will play in the field of 64 for the Women's National Invitation Tournament as the teams were released by Triple Crown Sports Monday night.
Date, site and first round opponent for the Lady Techsters will be released later tonight.
Tech (19-11) earned an at-large bid along with Conference USA members Rice and Middle Tennessee while regular season league champion UAB earned the automatic bid.
"We are very pleased to be participating in postseason play for the 2nd straight year," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "This group has worked hard all season and is deserving of this opportunity. I am thrilled for this team to be able to continue their season and compete together again. As we continue to build and lay a championship foundation, it is important for our students to experience postseason play and compete for championships."
This marks the program's third WNIT appearance as Tech participated in 2009 and 2017. Tech is 1-2 in WNIT games after last year's overtime loss at SMU.
Tech won 19 games, the most since 2010-11, and finished third in the Conference USA standings this year after ending the year with three straight victories, including wins over UAB and Rice.
Louisiana Tech is 5-1 against the field of 64 with wins over Penn State, Rice (twice), Middle Tennessee and UAB.
If Louisiana Tech gets a first round home game, tickets will go on sale through the Louisiana Tech ticket office Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Ticket prices and more details will be released once date, time and opponent are announced.
