Box Score April 7, 2018

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ââ'¬" Louisiana Tech used two big innings to lift it to a 13-4 win over Charlotte during cold, wet conditions Saturday evening at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.

Tech (21-17, 8-5 C-USA) capitalized on 12 walks, including 10 by 49ers starter Haley Wiseman, as the Lady Techsters plated five runs in the second and seven more in the seventh in recording its second straight game of 13 runs.

Charlotte (11-24, 5-8 C-USA) took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as 49ers shortstop Haley Pace launched a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence against LA Tech starter Preslee Gallaway.

Tech answered in the second inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Katie Smith hit a pop up that was dropped when Pace and 49ers third baseman Lizzy Birch collided, scoring a run to cut the deficit to 2-1. Taria Page then roped a two-run double to left field, giving LA Tech a 3-2 advantage. Sloane Stewartson then followed with a two-run single upping the lead to 5-2.

The 49ers came back in the bottom of the frame. Becca Shipper lined a two-out, two-run double to left centerfield, closing the gap to 5-4.

As the light drizzle stopped falling in the third inning, Gallaway settled own and got into a groove, facing the minimum of 12 batters over the next four innings. The 49ers got one hit but the runner was erased on an inning ending double play from Smith to Karlee Jensen to Page.

Tech added a single run in the top of the fifth inning. Jazlyn Crowder singled with two outs ââ'¬" one of her three hits in the win ââ'¬" and then scored on a Kimmie Atienza double down the left field line, pushing the lead to 6-4.

The Lady Techsters put the game away in the top of the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on only two hits and one error and six walks issued by two Charlotte pitchers. Crowder recorded a two-run double to left centerfield in the frame.

Gallaway (11-6) picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of action. Wiseman (8-15) was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 runs ââ'¬" five earned ââ'¬" on eight hits, 10 walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, LA Tech was led by Crowder (3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI, SB), Atienza (1-3, 2 runs, RBI, SB), Morgan Turkoly (2-4, 2 runs, SB), Smith (2 runs, 2 SB), Page (1-2, run, 2 RBI), Stewartson (2-3, 2 RBI), Ali Galaz (run), Marilyn Rizzato (1-2, run, RBI), Bayli Simon (run) and Addison Roark (RBI).
