SAN ANTONIO ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team could not pull off the weekend sweep, dropping a lot of close sets in a 4-2 loss to UTSA on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Complex.

Three total sets on the day went into a tiebreaker and all three went the way of the home team. One of those was in doubles where LA Tech (9-9, 1-3 C-USA) dropped the doubles point to UTSA (8-10, 2-0 C-USA).

The other two tiebreakers came in the second set of singles where the Lady Techsters were not able to extend the matches into a third, falling on courts two and five and also on court one.

The first win of the afternoon came from the doubles tandem of Sonia Chen and Claudia Oravcova who pulled out a 6-2 win over Charleen Tiwari and Ivana Ilic at the No. 3 position. The duo improved to 9-2 on the spring season.

After the Roadrunners evened things up with a 7-5 victory at the No. 1 spot, Nadja Manjon and Angela Lorenzo dropped a 7-6 (5) loss to Laura Cabrera and Sonia Madronal on court two to fall behind 1-0 in the team match.

The Roadrunners got the first point in singles as well with a straight-sets victory from court two. However, LA Tech responded as Karla De La Luz Montalvo had her second straight strong outing from the No. 3 spot, taking down Ilic by a final score of 7-5, 6-1.

UTSA countered with another singles point, coming through 7-6 (6) in the second set on court five to make it a 3-1 lead. In back-and-forth fashion, the Lady Techsters came through with another point via Lorenzo who won her fourth straight match by a score of 7-5, 6-3 from the No. 4 position.

The home team grabbed the clinching point on the next finish from court two where Cabrera edged Chen 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the No. 2 spot. The loss ended an amazing run the junior who had her program record-tying 12-match singles winning streak come to an end.

Andrea Perez-Lopez was up 6-4, 5-4 versus Diya Menon on court six when her match was stopped.

LA Tech has two remaining matches in the regular season. They will take place at Baylor on April 13 and at Rice on April 14.
