CHARLOTTE, N.C. ââ'¬" UAB used a four-run fourth inning to record a come-from-behind win, defeating Louisiana Tech 4-3 and ending the Lady Techsters season on Friday at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium in the third day of the Conference USA Tournament.
Trailing 2-0, UAB scored four runs on five hits off of three LA Tech pitchers, advancing on in the double elimination tournament.
After leaving the bases loaded in the first inning, LA Tech (34-23) struck for a pair of runs in the third frame. Kimmie Atienza singled and Morgan Turkoly doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Katie Smith lay down a two-strike bunt single to score Atienza with the first run of the game. Sloane Stewartson then drove home Turkoly with a sacrifice fly to centerfield as the Lady Techsters pushed the advantage to 2-0.
Freshman Erin McDonald made her fourth career start in the contest and pitched three scoreless innings for the Lady Techsters. UAB first baseman Rachel Rogers finally got the Blazers on the scoreboard with a solo home run to left field off of McDonald leading off the fourth.
UAB kept the momentum going in the frame with three more runs on four more hits, taking the lead.
Tech plate a run in the top of the fifth inning as Turkoly walked and Sloane Stewartson singled and Jazlyn Crowder came through with a two-out run scoring hit to centerfield.
The Lady Techsters put the game-tying run on third base with two outs in the seventh but UAB pitcher Emily Kachel recorded a strikeout to end the game.
