RUSTON, La. - The awards continued to roll in for the Louisiana Tech football team after its impressive win on Saturday afternoon, as wide receiver
Malik Stanley and cornerback
Amik Robertson were named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive and Defensive Players of the week, respectively, the organization announced Monday.
Stanley shared offensive honors with LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, while Robertson picked up his third defensive player of the week honor of the season.Â
Stanley had a career day at wideout in Tech's win over Southern Miss on Saturday – setting new career highs in receptions (8) and yards (212). Stanley entered Saturday's contest with 11 receptions for 182 yards through Tech's first six games, and proceeded to exceed both marks with his 8-catch, 212-yard day.
With his performance, Stanley became the 14
th Bulldog in program history with a 200-yard receiving performance. The South Alabama transfer came down with all eight of his targets, averaging 26.5 yards per reception. Stanley also hauled in a crucial touchdown catch in the back of the end zone on 3
rd and 5 for Tech's first score of the day. He is just one of 12 FBS players with 200+ yards receiving in a single game this season (second in C-USA).
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Robertson was chosen as one of 14 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award (recognizing the nation's best defensive back) as well as being named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.Â
On Saturday, Robertson picked off C-USA passing leader Jack Abraham three times, as the Bulldog defense held Southern Miss to just three points in the second half in Tech's 45-30 victory. With the feat, Robertson became just the third player in program history with three interceptions in a single game. He also added two additional pass breakups vs. the Golden Eagles, giving him five total passes defended on the day.Â
Robertson became the first C-USA player with three interceptions in a single game since 2017 (Jalen Young, FAU) and just the 12th in league history.Â
This season, Robertson leads all FBS with 16 passed defended. His five interceptions in 2019 are tied for second-most among national leaders.Â
Robertson has been credited with 43 passes defended in just 33 collegiate games (14 INTs - 29 pass breakups). That number is 4th most among active career FBS leaders.Â
This season, the Thibodaux, Louisiana, native has two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and is just one of two active players with three career pick sixes (Isaiah Rodgers - UMass).Â
