RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech will host its second straight America Athletic Conference opponent when the Wichita State Shockers come to the Thomas Assembly Center Wednesday night for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
Tech (2-0) has started the season with back-to-back wins over LSU-Alexandria (93-61) and Memphis (83-74) and hopes to make it three straight.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM with the pregame show starting at 6 p.m. Fans can also access a live video stream of the action through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
Wichita State (1-2) enters the contest following a 69-63 win over Southern this past weekend, snapping a two-game losing skid to open the year. The Shockers fell to both Northern Iowa (61-50) and Oral Roberts (79-66) before picking up their first win of the year.
"They are similar to us in terms of having a lot of new faces this year," said Tech head coach
Brooke Stoehr. "They are athletic. They will look to push in transition and get downhill. They have had a couple of players out with injury but we are preparing for them to be back.
"Sometimes they will go with a four-guard lineup, a smaller lineup. Sometimes they will go with a bigger lineup. We have to do a great job of stopping transition, containing them and forcing them to score in the half court. We have to keep them off the offensive glass."
Wichita State is averaging just 61.7 points per game led by Mariah McCully (12.0 ppg), who made her first appearance of the season in the win over Southern. Carla Bremaud (9.0 ppg, 12-12 FT), DJ McCarty (8.3 ppg) and Trajata Colbert (8.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) have also been productive on the offensive end of the floor.
Tech counters with a lineup featuring four double digit scorers led by
Grayson Bright (18.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg),
Keiunna Walker (14.0 ppg),
Amber Hawkison (11.0 ppg, 3.5 spg) and
Lotte Sant (11.0 ppg, 4-6 three-pointers).
Anna Larr Roberson (8.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg) leads LA Tech in rebounding through two games.
The Lady Techsters are averaging 88.0 points per game.
Wichita State leads the series 1-0 after defeating Tech 70-56 last season.
