OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss forced 29 turnovers as the Rebels defeated Louisiana Tech 76-53 Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion at Ole Miss before 1,019 fans.
After scoring the first five points of the game, Tech (2-2) saw Ole Miss (3-2) grab a 5-point lead at the end of the first quarter (18-13), push it out to eight at the half (33-25) and never trailed by less than double figures during the second half.
"It's frustrating," said Tech head coach
Brooke Stoehr. "It's a helpless feeling when we can't make a simple entry pass. I don't fault our players effort. There is a bunch of effort out there but it is all going in different directions. We can't play one on one.
"I thought it hurt when Raizel (Guinto) and Grayson (Bright) got into foul trouble early and only combined for 14 minutes in the first half. When that happened they went to the zone and our guards didn't handle the zone very well. We stood around and were reversal robots. We just never attacked the middle."
Tech sophomore
Keiunna Walker led the Lady Techsters with a career-high 18 points, the only Tech player in double figures.
The Lady Techsters entered the game struggling on the boards, being outrebounded by double figures in each of its last two games. However, Tech held its own with Ole Miss winning the battle of the boards 38-37.
"I thought we did a good job especially early on the glass," said Stoehr. "I think they only had one offensive rebound in the first quarter. I thought Anna Larr (Roberson) and MeMe (Amand) really battled them on the glass. And Grayson when she was out there. It's an area that I thought we saw improvement in today."
Deja Cage led Ole Miss with 30 points while Valerie Nesbit added 12 points, eight assists, eight steals and six rebounds.
Tech returns to action Tuesday when the Lady Techsters host Loyola-New Orleans at 6:30 p.m.
