McCown Named Honorary I-Bowl Captain

SHREVEPORT – On Thursday afternoon, Louisiana Tech fans will take in a little blast from the past as former record-setting quarterback, Luke McCown, will represent the Bulldogs at midfield as an honorary captain.

McCown ranks first in the Tech record books in career passing yards (12,994) and second in career touchdown passes (88).

The former Tech signal caller has a history against Miami and also in Independence Stadium.

In 2000, as a true freshman, McCown went 42-of-72 for 418 yards and three touchdowns as Tech fell narrowly, 42-31, to the #2 Hurricanes in Miami.

Then, in 2003, McCown and the Bulldogs got another crack at the Hurricanes, this time in Shreveport.

Miami, again the #2 ranked team in the nation, entered the contest winners in 34 of their last 35 games, and showed why, taking a 48-9 victory.

With McCown representing the Bulldogs on Thursday, Miami will send out its former quarterback from the early 2000's, Brock Berlin, who threw a pair of touchdown passes in the Hurricanes' win in Shreveport.

McCown and Berlin have remained close since their playing days, and will both get a special opportunity to represent their universities at midfield on Thursday.

"I always loved playing in Independence Stadium," McCown recalled. "Obviously some of our bigger games came there, and we always had a great turnout from our fans. It always felt like playing at home. To me that pointed to the reach of Bulldog pride. I'm excited and honored for the opportunity to represent Louisiana Tech on Thursday."
