RUSTON, La. –
Preslee Gallaway and
Krystal De La Cruz combined for a shutout in leading Louisiana Tech to a 3-0 win over Lamar Tuesday evening at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
ech (17-7) only outhit the Cardinals (11-15) 5-4 but were able to score single runs in the first, second and third innings to build an early lead. Gallaway (7-5) got the win while De La Cruz (2) picked up the save while recording Tech's eighth shutout of the season.
Morgan Turkoly got the scoring going for Tech in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Turkoly singled to centerfield and advanced to second on a fielding error. One out later,
Zoe Hicks singled to left field, driving Turkoly home with the first run of the contest.
Tech added to its lead in the second inning.
Bayli Simon doubled to right centerfield and with two outs, scored on
Marilyn Rizzato's line drive single to left field. Tech led 2-0.
The Lady Techsters loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third inning on two walks and a fielding error by Lamar. However, Tech managed only one run as Turkoly scored on a sacrifice fly by
Lindsay Edwards to centerfield.
Gallaway tossed 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits and three walks. De La Cruz worked the final 2.0 innings in relief, allowing only two hits while striking out four batters.
The Lady Techsters will travel to Alabama this weekend to open up Conference USA play in a three-game series against UAB on Saturday and Sunday.
