STARKVILLE, Miss. –
Jazlyn Crowder and
Sloane Stewartson each homered but they were the only two hits of the game for Louisiana Tech as the Lady Techsters fell 7-4 to Mississippi State Friday night at Nusz Park.
Tech (15-6) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning without the benefit of a hit, capitalizing on wildness from Miss State starter Emily Williams. Four walks and an infield error allowed the Lady Techsters to plate two runs with
Marilyn Rizzato driving home the first one with a ground out and
Bayli Simon driving home the second by drawing a bases loaded walk.
Mississippi State (17-5) responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the first on Candace Denis' two-out single to left field, plating Mia Davidson. State tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Fa Leilua hit a solo home run over the scoreboard in left field.
The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Sarai Niu run-scoring hit.
Tech responded in the top of the fifth inning. Crowder drove a full-count offering from Williams over the left field fence, tying the game at 3-3. It was Tech's first hit of the game.
The pivotal moment came in the bottom of the fifth inning. With runners on the corners and one out, Kat Moore drove a
Preslee Gallaway offering high to deep left centerfield. Crowder jumped high into the air and had the ball in her glove, before crashing into the outfield fence. The impact caused the ball to pop out of Crowder's glove for a three-run home run.
Tech cut the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Stewartson deep over the scoreboard in left field.
Mississippi State add a run in the bottom of the sixth as Davidson launched her 14
th home run of the year off Tech reliever
Jenny Chapman.
