Harris has career-night with 25 points

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech junior Bre Harris scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds but 25th-ranked Texas defeated the Lady Techsters 84-57 at the Frank Erwin Center Wednesday night.

Tech (2-1) outrebounded the much bigger Longhorns 34-31, including pulling down 13 offensive rebounds. However, the Lady Techsters couldn't overcome 30 turnovers that led to 27 points by the Longhorns.

"We simply have to be better with the ball," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "I thought we really competed. You don't outrebound a team like Texas without effort. We did some good things. I probably should have gone to the zone a little earlier.

"Bre had a great game. Collier is 6-foot-5 and Bre is 6-foot on a good day. She battled inside all night long. She was 9-of-11 from the field against a much taller opponent. Again, we just have to cut our 30 turnovers in half and we would have been in a ball game."

Texas (3-0) scored the first six points of the game and built an 11-point advantage at 22-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Longhorns behind the play of All-American candidate Charli Collier led 42-24 at the halftime break.

Collier, who entered the game averaging 35 points and 14 rebounds per game, led Texas with 22 points and eight rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.

Harris, who entered the game averaging 12.5 points per game, doubled that average against the 6-foot-5-inch Collier. The Mobile, Alabama, native connected on 9-of-11 field goals, 1-of-1 from the three-point line and 6-of-7 at the free throw line to net the 25 points.

Raizel Guinto, Keiunna Walker and Robyn Lee each scored 7 points in the loss

Tech shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the field and hit 14-of-18 free throws while Texas connected on 50 percent (33-of-66) from the field.

Tech will host Jackson State Dec. 8 at the Thomas Assembly Center.
