Late Shot Sinks @LATechWBB at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Juliette Gauthier's layup with 5.9 seconds to play lifted Florida Atlantic to a 77-75 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon.

Following a layup by Amber Dixon with 21 seconds to play that tied the game at 75-75, Florida Atlantic brought the ball into the front court and called a timeout. Out of the inbounds play, Gauthier received the pass and drove down the right side of the lane for an uncontested layup and a two-point lead.

"We had just talked in the time out about using our two remaining fouls we had to give," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "That was our plan. To black the play. It was set up perfectly for us to take some time off the clock but we didn't execute.

"Our defender knew she had four fouls and didn't foul. In that situation it doesn't matter how many fouls you have. You foul, but we have to do a better job of communicating that to our players. We had the same scenario at North Texas and executed it perfectly. Today, we did not."

Trailing by two, Tech inbounded the ball in the front court to Dixon who drove down the right side of the lane and went up strong for the shot. However, the shot was blocked and the Owls corralled the loose basketball as the final two seconds ticked off the clock.

Tech (12-12, 4-9) trailed for the majority of the game, trailing 34-31 at the half and 64-57 through three quarters. The Lady Techsters tied the game on four separate occasions in the fourth quarter but could never take the lead.

Florida Atlantic shot 53 percent (28-53) from the field in the game.

"We just didn't get stops when we needed them," said Stoehr. "We gave up 30 points in the third quarter alone. It came down to us needing to get a stop late and we couldn't get it."

Dixon led Tech with 18 points while Raizel Guinto added 16 points. Bri Harris scored 15 points and Grayson Bright added 13 points.

Tech returns to action Thursday when it hosts Southern Miss at 6:30 p.m.
