Audrey Pickett pitched a complete game shutout and
Lindsay Edwards hit her team-leading third home run of the season as Louisiana Tech split a pair of games at the Bearkat Classic hosted by Sam Houston State.
Game 1: LA Tech 2, North Dakota State 0
Audrey Pickett scattered six hits and didn't allow a run to lead Louisiana Tech to a 2-0 win over perennial NCAA Regional team North Dakota State in the first game of the day.
Pickett (2-6) needed just 112 pitches to toss her first complete-game shutout of the season as she didn't allow a walk in the contest.
Kailey Anderson gave Pickett all the run support she would need with an RBI double that scored
Jordyn Manning in the bottom of the second inning. Tech added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single to right field by
Meghan Robicheaux, scoring pinch runner
Lexi Pope.
North Dakota State put the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh inning but Pickett recorded the final two outs to seal the win.
Game 2: Sam Houston State 11, LA Tech 4
Lindsay Edwards hit her third home run of the season – a two-run shot in the third inning – but Sam Houston State used a five-run second and a four-run fourth inning to pull away for the win.
Tech took an early 1-0 lead plating a run in the top of the first inning, but the BEarkats answered in the second against Lady Techster starter
Bre Hernandez. Sam Houston State plated the five runs on four hits and two Tech errors to take a 5-1 advantage.
Edwards cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning, blasting a two-run home run over the left field fence, scoring
Mary Terral who had singled.
After SHSU added a single run in the bottom of the third inning,, Tech crossed the plate in the top of the fourth inning as
Meghan Robicheaux scored on a fielding error by the Bearkats.
Trailing 6-4, Tech saw Sam Houston State plated four runs on four hits, including a three-run home run, in the bottom of the fourth. SHSU would add one more run in the game.
Tech returns to action Sunday at 9 a.m. against North Dakota State and at 11:30 a.m. against Sam Houston State.
