@LATechSB Rallies for 10-8 Win

EL PASO, Texas – After getting run-ruled in the first game of the day and trailing 5-0 in the second, Louisiana Tech showed plenty of fight as the Lady Techsters rallied for a 10-8 win in the nightcap against UTEP at Helen of Troy Softball Complex Saturday.

Tech (8-16, 2-1 C-USA) took two of three and took the opening series of conference play from the homestanding Miners. The Lady Techsters will return home for their first home games of the year when they host UTSA Friday through Sunday.

Game 1: UTEP 8, LA Tech 0

Lindsay Edwards recorded a pair of hits but there was little else to boast about in the first game of the doubleheader as UTEP run-ruled Tech 8-0 in five innings.

The Miners scored seven of their eight runs with two outs in the game, plating two in the first, four in the second and two more in the fourth.

Ariana Valles had three hits and three RBI while Ilena Santos hit a three-run home run as the Miners banged out 10 hits in the win.

Bre Hernandez (2-8) took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of action in the circle. Hannah Koenig pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.

Kailey Anderson and Marilyn Rizzato each added one hit for Tech.

Game 2: LA Tech 10, UTEP 8

Trailing 5-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, Louisiana Tech rallied to score 10 runs over the next three frames highlighted by three-run home runs by Madie Green and Mary Terral.

Green blasted her fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning, plating the first three runs of the day for Tech and cutting the deficit to 5-3. Tech wasn't done in the frame as Kailey Anderson doubled to the right centerfield wall, scoring Addison Roark. Anderson then came home to score on Brooke Diaz's RBI single up the middle, tying the game at 5-5.

UTEP retook the lead with a bases-clearing two out double by Valles in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to 8-5.

Tech scratched for a run in the top of the fifth inning as Meghan Robicheaux singled to right field, scoring Green from second base. The UTEP lead was at 8-6.

The Lady Techsters then took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Lindsay Edwards and Marilyn Rizzato both singled and then scored on a three-run blast over the left centerfield wall by Terral. Tech led 9-8.

Tech then loaded the bases with two outs and Anderson came through with a RBI single – her third hit of the game – to plate Green for the final run of the game.

Audrey Pickett (6-6) got the win in the circle, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of action. However, Pickett set UTEP down without much fanfare over the final two frames, including retiring three straight batters in the seventh to seal the win.
