RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech graduate
Ethan Reed is one of 14 student-athletes from Conference USA member schools receiving the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, the league announced Thursday.
The 12th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castañeda who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Reed earned his undergraduate degree this Spring in mechanical engineering and also completed a business economics minor. He earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll all five years on campus, and was named to the 2020 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
Reed started all 53 games of his Bulldog career, which led the nation. He was named Second Team All-Conference USA and Second Team All-Louisiana in 2019 after helping lead an offensive front that paved the way for a 1,000-yard rusher and the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year. The Orange, Texas native was earned All-Conference USA honors for four consecutive seasons.
