Hot Shooting Lady Techsters Blow Past LSU-Alexandria, 95-48

Five Lady Techsters score in double-figures for the second straight game

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech shot a blistering 62 percent from the field as five players scored in double-figures to help the Lady Techsters secure a 95-48 win over LSU-Alexandria Friday afternoon in the annual Education Day Game inside the Thomas Assembly Center.

Almost 2,400 elementary kids filled the TAC as the Lady Techsters moved to 2-0 on the year, while today's game was an exhibition game for LSU-Alexandria (0-3).

The Lady Techsters were hot early, making 10 of their first 12 shots to surge out to a 21-3 lead. Second year freshman Robyn Lee scored seven points, while sophomore Anna Larr Roberson added six points during the run. True freshman Amaya Brannon added a driving layup in the closing seconds of the opening frame to give the Lady Techsters a 28-14 advantage after the first quarter.

The Lady Techsters defense then took over, forcing the Generals into five turnovers, leading to a 10-0 run as Brannon nailed back-to-back three-pointers to give Tech a 46-21 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Techsters score the first 13 points of quarter, highlighted by seven points from Tulane transfer Salma Bates and four from Brannon to extend Tech's lead out to 59-21. Following eight straight points from the Generals, Tech put together another 11-0 surge behind a pair of fast break layups by junior Keiunna Walker, to take a 76-33 lead into the final period.

The Lady Techsters extended their lead out to as much as 53-points at 86-33 on a mid-range jumper by freshman Silvia Nativi with 6:37 left in the game. Freshman Rhi Ockwell closed out the game with a three from the corner as Tech claimed the victory 95-48.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Brooke Stoehr
"I thought we had balanced scoring and moved the ball really well, but we got a little sloppy defensively towards the end of the game. I thought Keiunna Walker did a really good job of pressuring their guards and putting them in difficult situations. Then, Amaya Brannon was very active today on the defensive end. Our starting five took a lot of good shots and when you look at their numbers they all shot pretty high percentages.  Twenty-five assists is a really big stat as we moved the ball tonight. I was really excited that we were able to compete today and had the opportunity to get better."

The Lady Techsters will return to action next Friday night when they head to Oxford, Miss. to take on the Lady Rebels of Ole Miss inside the SJB Pavilion at 7 p.m.
