Ruston, La. – Louisiana Tech junior
Keiunna Walker was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the organization announced on Monday.
The award is based on nominations and voting by the state's Women's Basketball sports information directors with SIDs not able to vote for their own players.
Walker, the first Lady Techster to claim LSWA weekly honors during the 2021-22 season, was stellar in helping Louisiana Tech to a 77-52 win over Sam Houston Friday night inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
The junior guard tied her season-high with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including a 5-of-6 mark from the free throw line. Walker scored 16 of her points in the first half going a perfect 7-of-7 to start the game.
Walker's 26-point effort was her 13th career 20-point outing and is now just one of five players in Conference USA to have scored in double-figures in every game their team has played in this season.
The Lonoke, Ark. native, was also a force on the defensive end of the floor, holding Sam Houston's top and the Western Athletic Conference's second leading scorer to just 11 points, six of which came in the final two minutes of the game when Walker was not on the court.
Walker also recorded a career-high by blocking a pair of shots while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists in the win.
Walker currently ranks third in C-USA in points per game (17.1) and first in free throws attempted (66) and free throws made (52).
Walker and the rest of the Lady Techsters will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 19 when they travel to face UL-Lafayette at 4 p.m. inside the Cajundome.
