ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (5-2)
A strong fourth quarter and a double-double by sophomore
Anna Larr Roberson helped the Lady Techsters to a 64-48 win this past Thursday at ULM. LA Tech hit a season-high 21 free throws and shot 50.0 percent from the field in the final period to earn the win.
Roberson had a standout performance against the Warhawks, recording her ninth career double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. After grabbing just 25 rebounds through the first four games of the season, she has collected 38 boards in the last three outings to up her average to 9.0 rebounds per game, ranking third in Conference USA.
Junior
Keiunna Walker continues to lead the Lady Techsters on the offensive end of the floor. She is averaging 16.7 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field. Walker is also just one of six players in Conference USA to score in double-figures in every game their team has played in this season. She is the soul of the Tech defense averaging 2.57 steals per contest, which ranks fourth in C-USA.
Collectively, the Lady Techsters play a very disciplined but physical style of defense. Tech ranks 24th in the NCAA in turnover margin (+6.29) while limiting fouls to just 13.4 fouls per game which ranks 20th in all of Division I.
The Lady Techsters have had success from the inside all year long, outscoring their opponents this season, 242-168, in the paint. A large part of that comes from the play of Roberson (12.4 ppg.),
Jadona Davis (2.0 ppg.) and
Kate Thompson (3.3 ppg.) down low. Tech also gets a major contribution from the guards as Tech has outscored its opponents, 87-53, in fast-break points.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE (0-5)
Mississippi Valley State is winless on the year but have played a string of tough opponents in Ole Miss, UAB, Murray State, Southeast Missouri State and Southern Miss.
The Devilettes have been a force on the defensive end, turning its opponents over 20.8 times a game which ranks in the top-50 in the country. Over the last two games, MVSU opponents are averaging 25 turnovers a game. Despite turning over its opponents, MVSU is allowing 79.6 points per game which ranks 11th worst in the country.
Junior Mikayla Etienne and senior Zakiya Mahoney have emerged as the top scorers for the Devilettes, averaging 13.6 and 12.2 points per game respectfully. Senior Sarah Moore anchors the inside for the Green and White, securing seven rebounds a contest, ranking sixth in the SWAC in rebounds per game.
